When Are Dental Crowns Needed?

The Dental Crown Procedure

  • Initial Consultation: Dr. Carlson or Dr. Gabriel will evaluate your tooth and discuss your treatment options.
  • Preparation: After numbing the area, the tooth is reshaped to allow for a proper fit of the crown.
  • Impression: An impression is taken to create a custom crown tailored to your tooth.
  • Temporary Crown: A temporary crown will be placed to protect your tooth while your permanent crown is being made.
  • Final Placement: Once your custom crown is ready, you’ll return for the final placement. Dr. Carlson or Dr. Gabriel will ensure a perfect fit and secure the crown using permanent dental cement. The final crown is usually delivered 2 weeks after impressions are taken.

With proper care, dental crowns can last many years. It’s important to maintain good oral hygiene, including regular brushing, flossing, and dental check-ups, to keep your crown and surrounding teeth healthy.
