Dental Implants
A Lasting Solution for Missing Teeth
Dental implants are a popular and effective solution for replacing missing teeth. These titanium posts are surgically placed into the jawbone, serving as artificial roots that provide a stable foundation for custom-made crowns, bridges, or dentures. Implants not only restore functionality but also enhance the aesthetics of your smile, making them an ideal long-term option for tooth replacement.
When Are Dental Implants Needed?
Dental implants may be recommended for:
- Replacing Missing Teeth: Implants are an excellent solution for one or more missing teeth, restoring both function and appearance.
- Improving Chewing Function: Implants allow you to eat comfortably and confidently without worrying about dentures slipping or moving.
- Maintaining Bone Health: By stimulating the jawbone, implants help prevent bone loss that can occur with missing teeth, preserving facial structure.
- Enhancing Aesthetics: Implants provide a natural-looking result, blending seamlessly with your existing teeth and improving your overall smile.
Types of Dental Implant Solutions
- Single Tooth Implants: A titanium post is placed in the jaw to support a custom crown for a single missing tooth.
- Implant-Supported Bridges: Multiple missing teeth can be replaced with a bridge supported by dental implants, providing stability and function.
- Overdentures: These removable dentures are securely anchored to dental implants, offering enhanced stability and improved function compared to traditional dentures.
The Dental Implant Procedure
1
Initial Consultation
Our dental team will evaluate your oral health and discuss your goals for tooth replacement, determining if dental implants are right for you.
2
Implant Placement
The procedure is performed in our office under local anesthesia. A small incision is made in the gum to expose the jawbone, where the titanium implant is placed. This process typically takes about an hour.
3
Healing Period
After placement, a healing period of several months allows for osseointegration, during which the bone fuses to the implant, providing a strong foundation.
4
Abutment Placement
Once healed, an abutment (connector) is placed on the implant to hold the crown, bridge, or overdenture. This may require a minor surgical procedure.
5
Restoration
A custom crown, bridge, or overdenture is created and attached to the abutment, completing the restoration. Additionally, we can restore implants placed in other offices, ensuring a seamless fit and function.
Care and Maintenance
With proper care, dental implants can last many years, often a lifetime. Regular oral hygiene—brushing, flossing, and routine dental visits—are essential for maintaining the health of your implants and surrounding teeth.
